WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Navy men's heavyweight crew team won all five of its races to kick off its spring slate at the George Washington Invitational on Friday afternoon on the Potomac River.
In the first varsity race, the Midshipmen crossed the finish line 5.0 seconds ahead of Georgetown, 5:35.1-5:40.1.
Both of Navy's second varsity boats produced first-place times on Friday. Navy's `A' second varsity boat finished nearly eight seconds ahead of Georgetown with a time of 5:39.8, while the `B' boat recorded a 4.9-second victory over runner-up UC San Diego with a 5:46.1 clocking.
Navy's first freshmen boat delivered a time of 5:33.8 to finish 9.1 seconds ahead of second-place Georgetown. The second freshmen boat provided the largest margin of victory for the Midshipmen - 23.3 seconds - with their 5:39.4 showing.
The Midshipmen (1-0) will conclude their action at the George Washington Invitational tomorrow. Navy will face MIT in the morning first varsity race (11:10 a.m.) and UC San Diego in the afternoon first varsity event (4:36 p.m.).
