ANNAPOLIS, Md.-- Naval Academy defensive great Chet Moeller is one of 14 individuals named as a 2010 inductee in the College Football Hall of Fame it was announced today at NASDAQ marketplace in New York City.

Moeller was selected from the national ballot of 77 candidates and a pool of hundreds of eligible nominees.

Moeller, the 1975 East Coast Athletic Conference (ECAC) Player of the Year and First Team All-American, revolutionized the position of safety en route to becoming one of the most decorated football players in Navy history.

A two-time All-East selection, Moeller was only the sixth Midshipmen to be selected as a unanimous All-American. He served as co-captain his senior year and registered 275 tackles during his career. He recorded a school record 25 tackles for a loss as a junior.

Moeller was a star in the classroom as well, earning Second Team Academic All-American honors as a senior.

Following his career at Navy, Moeller served as an officer in the United States Marine Corp. He has served as a board member for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, a deacon in his church and is currently serving as a church elder. This past fall he was selected to the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial All-Stadium Team.

Moeller is the 22nd Navy player or coach to be inducted into the Hall of Fame and the first since former quarterback and head coach George Welsh was inducted in 2004.

Moeller is part of a distinguished class that features four unanimous First Team All-Americans, three consensus First Team All-Americans, one Heisman Trophy winner, one Maxwell Award winner, one Walter Camp Player of the Year, one Butkus Award winner, six conference players of the year and six first-round NFL draft picks.
