UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Navy men's cross country team ran to a third place finish at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational on Saturday in University Park, Pa. The Midshipmen were led by senior Andrew Hanko, who took second place with a time of 25:18.
As a team, Navy finished with 79 points behind Princeton (48 points) and Georgetown (52 points).
"We ran pretty much according to form," said Navy head coach Al Cantello. "Andrew (Hanko) was brilliant and Cody (Rome) was leading the race with a quarter mile to go. Our top three ran tough."
Rome finished the race in sixth place with a time 25:30 while James Pearson followed in 14th place as he clocked a 25:54.
Jeremy Haney (26:18), Kyle Satterwhite (26:28) and Ken Bunnell (26:29) were the next Navy finishers to cross the finish line as they placed 31st, 34th and 35th, respectively.
Dean Black followed in 40th place with a time of 26:37.
"In an invitational meet like this, the pack up front is inconsequential," said Cantello. "Your fifth man is very, very critical. We'll close that gap though."
The Midshipmen will host the USNA Invitational next Saturday at the USNA Golf Course.
