ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Senior Andrew Hanko claimed the Navy Invitational individual title and the men's cross country team won the team title to highlight a banner day for the program. Navy's 35 points edged out Louisville, which had 38 points, to defend their Navy Invitational crown.

Hanko finished the 8K course at the USNA Golf Course in a time of 23:55 to pace a field of 89 runners.

"Andrew ran smart," said head coach Al Cantello. "Louisville set the pace, but because Andrew knows the course, he was able to reel them in on the last mile and a half. "

Cody Rome placed fourth overall with a time of 24:11, James Pearson was seventh at 24:38 and Ken Bunnell was the fourth Mid in the top-10 with a time of 24:50 an a ninth-place finish.

Navy's final scorer was Jeremy Haney, who came in with a time of 25:05, good for 14th place.

The strong team effort was vital for Navy, which had to overcome Louisville's Matt Hughes and Michael Eaton finishing in second and third place overall, respectively.

"It's a brand new course, it's a beautiful day and we had a ton of people out here and we are happy we won," said Cantello.

The Mids, who are ranked No. 4 in the USATFCCA Mid-Atlantic Region Poll, were able to further entrench themselves in the poll by defeating a pair of regionally ranked teams. American is No. 5 in the Mid-Atlantic Region and Louisville is No. 6 in the Southeast Region Poll.

Navy will return to action next Saturday at the Roy Griak Invitational in St. Paul, Minnesota.
