Men's Cross Country Places Sixth at Griak Invitational

FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. - Competing in a field that included six teams that ran in last year's NCAA Championships, the Navy men's cross country team placed sixth at the Roy Griak Invitational on Saturday. The Mids finished with 199 points, just edging No. 21-ranked Iowa State, who finished in seventh place with 200 points. Duke, currently ranked No. 19 in the nation, topped the 22-team field with 79 points.

Senior Andrew Hanko finished in ninth place in the 213-runner field with a time of 24:27. The Patriot League Runner of the Year has finished in the top 10 of every race in which he has competed this season.

Juniors James Pearson (25:03) and Cody Rome (25:06) placed 28th and 29th, respectively. Jeremy Haney (25:40) and Dean Black (25:42) were the next to Midshipmen to cross the finish line as they also placed in order at 75th and 77th, respectively.

Ken Bunnell (26:03) and Aaron Foote (26:10) rounded out Navy's top seven.

Navy will return to action next weekend at the Paul Short Invitational in Bethlehem, Pa.
