ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy men's and women's swimming and diving teams picked up wins on Saturday, as both defeated Yale at Lejeune Hall. The men's team won, 152-131, while the women's squad posted a 161-139 victory.

"I'm pleased with the effort and the racing we did today," said Navy men's head coach Bill Roberts. "Both teams are working hard at this point in the season, but I think our guys stepped up well in each event and raced hard."

Navy women's head coach John Morrison was equally as pleased with his team's effort on Saturday.

"Today was an impressive win for our team, we knew it was going to be a battle and they were able to step up to the challenge," Morrison said. "It puts us in the right direction."

Laura Gorinski and Toni Paruso highlighted the afternoon as both turned in two record performances. Gorinski first record-setting swim came in the 100 breastroke where she clocked a 1:10.38, snapping Mallory Dietrich's old mark of 1:10.65, set in 2006.

Later in the meet, Gorinski broke another one of Dietrich's records that was set in 2006. Gorinski's 2:30.94 in the 200 breaststroke won the event by nearly :03 and broke Dietrich's previous pool-record time of 2:32.47 by over :01.50.

Gorinski also won the 200 IM, clocking a 2:21.50.

"There were a lot of great efforts across the board, but you can't overlook Laura Gorinski's two pool records in the 100 and 200 breaststroke," said Morrison. "Toni Paruso also had two great wins."

Equally as impressive as Gorinski was Paruso, whose dramatic win in the 200 fly set a new Navy record. Paruso just touched out Yale's Hayes Hyde by :00.09 to win the event and her time of 2:16.43 smashed another of Dietrich's marks. Dietrich's time of 2:17.10 had been tops at Navy since 2006.

Paruso also posted a pool record in the 100 butterfly. Her time of 1:01.54 just narrowly eclipsed the previous Lejeune Hall record of 1:01.56, set by Liz Shaw of Virginia nearly a year ago.

On the men's side, Mac Anthony had a strong afternoon as he won both the 200 freestyle and 200 backstroke. Anthony was the first of four consecutive Mids to touch the wall in the 200 free and his time of 1:49.93 was the third-best in Navy history.

Later on in the 200 back, Anthony was the first of six Mids to finish as he placed first with a time of 2:04.09.

Anthony also led all finishers in the 200 IM with a 2:05.00, though his time was an exhibition.

Erik Hunter won the first individual event of the day for the men, the 800 freestyle, with a time of 8:12.78, which was seventh-best in academy history.

Hunter later turned in a 3:59.80 in the 400 freestyle, which was also good for the fastest time in the event.

"We had a lot of great performances today, certainly the multi-event winners," Roberts said. "But we also had a lot of guys, like K.C. Linn, who posted a season-best time in the 200 backstroke, that also swam very well."

Hayden Jones led the Navy men on the one-meter board with a score of 360.53. Olaf Olson followed in second place with a 348.38. The two divers also produced the two highest scores in the three-meter competition as Olson posted a 382.58 and Jones a 341.40.

For the women, Navy's Jordyn Nicholl had her best finish of the day - third - on the one-meter board with a score of 232.58.

The women will return to competition on Wednesday when they host Johns Hopkins at 5 p.m. at Lejeune Hall. The men's team's next dual will be on Feb. 4 when they travel to New York to take on Columbia.
