ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy squash team opened play at the Patriot League Schools 2011 Squash Championship on Saturday with force, scoring 9-0 victories over both Colgate and Bucknell. The 15th-ranked Mids pushed their record to 21-5 on the year, marking the seventh time in Navy's 63-year history it has reached 20 wins, including each of the last three seasons.

Navy utilized the same lineup in both matches, as each Mid walked away with a pair of wins on Saturday. Leading the way for Navy was 89th-ranked Allan Lutz (McLean, Va.), who became Navy's all-time winningest player during Craig Dawson's 11-year tenure. Lutz pushed past Colgate's Gray Huffard, 11-4, 11-4, 11-6, before giving up just two points in three games against Bucknell's Kirk Bonner. Lutz improved to 21-4 on the year and 94-30 during his four-year career.

Sophomore John Richey (West Hartford, Conn.) and senior Tommy McNamara (New York, N.Y.) each scored their 20th win of the season. Richey, the Mids' No. 4 player in the lineup, opened the day with a three-game sweep over Kyle Deombeleg of Colgate, followed by an 1-4, 11-7, 11-4 victory over Bucknell's Ben DeCamillo. Meanwhile, McNamara shut down Colgate's Jamie Beddow in three games and swept Morgan Beeson of Bucknell in the nightcap.

Colgate's Mark Bugas pushed Navy senior Aidan Crofton (Laverock, Pa.) to a four-game match, as Bugas evened the match at one apiece with an 11-5 game two victory. Crofton, however, easily took the match with 11-2 and 11-1 wins in the third and fourth games, respectively.

Meanwhile, sophomore David Koenig (Cincinnati, Ohio) fell behind Bucknell's Rod Maier straight out of the gate, but recovered nicely with three-straight wins to take the match in four.

The Midshipmen will return to action on Sunday when they battle Lafayette at 10:00 am and Lehigh at 2:30 pm.
