ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Juliana Crum and Rebecca Heath combined for 22 kills and a .465 attack percentage to lead American to a 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-19) victory over the Navy volleyball team Thursday night at the Wesley A. Brown Field House in Annapolis.

Navy (6-14, 1-4 Patriot League) was able to stay with American (12-9, 5-0) in the early part of each set, but the Eagles put together a sizeable run in the middle section of each set to pull away from the Mids.

American began the night by turning a 15-14 lead in the first set into a 21-14 advantage. The second set saw the Eagles go on a 7-3 run to build a 21-15 cushion. Navy sliced the margin down to three points at 21-18, but the teams traded points over the remainder of the set to give American to 2-0 lead. Then, a 6-0 run by the Eagles gave them an 18-10 lead in the third and what would prove to be the final set.

"American is a good team," said Navy head coach Larry Bock. "We realistically can't make as many unforced errors as we did tonight against a team of their caliber. This is not a game of perfect and when things don't go exactly right, we as coaches have to realize we are coaching players who are used to perfection and we have to deal with imperfect scenarios. But there were enough good things tonight to keep us going, such as our blocking."

American's offense posted 41 kills and hit .329 as a team, while its defense held the Mids to 29 kills and an attack percentage of .080. The Eagles also held a 29-22 advantage over Navy in digs. Navy, in turn, tallied four team blocks to just one for the Eagles.

Carolyn Ewert (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif.) knocked down a Navy-best 10 digs and paced the defensive players with seven digs. Meanwhile, Alex Cassel (Fr., Sandy, Utah) had a hand in recording two of Navy's four blocks.

Crum and Heath both posted 11 kills to lead all players in the match.

Navy will return to the road for the remainder of October, starting with matches next weekend at Lehigh (Oct. 14) and Lafayette (Oct. 15).
