Navy senior John Dowd was named to the First Team Capital One Academic All-District Two team by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Dowd is now eligible for Academic All-America honors.

Dowd is a three-year letterwinner and two year starter at offensive guard and maintains a 3.91 grade point average.

The Mechanical Engineering major was named Second-Team Academic All-America as a sophomore and First-Team Academic All-America as a junior. He was the first Navy player to be selected a First-Team Academic All-American since 1980 and just the fifth in school history. If Dowd is named to the First Team this year, he will be Navy's first Two-Time First-Team Academic All-American in football.

Dowd is also a finalist for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award and for the William V. Campbell Trophy, which recognizes an individual as the absolute best scholar-athlete playing college football on any level in the nation.
