ANNAPOLIS, Md. - After defeating Drexel, 5-2, on Saturday morning, the Navy women's tennis team had its five-match winning streak snapped with a 6-1 loss to No. 34 DePaul on Saturday night. Navy is now 6-4, while DePaul improved to 6-3.

"I was very proud of the way the ladies fought today," said Navy head coach Keith Puryear. "To beat a very solid Drexel team, then to follow that up with our match against DePaul says a lot about the character, fight and drive of our team.

"We played a very good Drexel team that fought us down to the wire this morning. Winning the doubles point was key because every one of the singles matches was a war. But, we were able to secure critical victories by Darien Sears, Erin Snook, Amanda Griffin and Brittney Boucher."

Despite the loss on Saturday evening, Boucher put together one of her strongest matches of the season with a historic tie-break victory.

"Britney was our warrior of the day," said Puryear. "She fought through cramps in her calves to become the first Navy women's tennis player to defeat an opponent from a nationally-ranked team."

Playing at No. 6 singles, Boucher defeated Samantha Raneta 6-7(2), 6-1, (10-3) in the final match of the evening.

The Blue Demons took the remaining five singles matches in straight sets.

In doubles action, Boucher and Sears pushed DePaul's tandem of Christiana Raymond and Cali Gustafson, but fell by a score of 8-5. The Blue Demons won the other doubles matches by identical scores of 8-2.

Despite the lopsided loss, Puryear was pleased with the Mids' effort against a tough opponent.

"I thought we played well and the scores do not truly indicate the complexity of the rallies in the match," said Puryear. "I felt we were in every single point, but DePaul is ranked No. 34 for a reason. During the rallies they just seemed to find ways to escape when we were in charge, and did a great job of finishing. For us, it was a great learning experience. We accorded ourselves very well."

Navy will be back in action at the Tose Family Tennis Center on Sunday when it hosts Mount St. Mary's at 7 p.m.
