ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy women's tennis team won four-of-six singles matches to earn its fifth win in a row with a 5-2 triumph over Drexel on Saturday morning at the Brigade Sports Complex. Navy improved to 6-3 with the victory, while Drexel fell to 0-2.
Navy got things started by winning two-of-three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Amanda Griffin (Sr. / Roseville, Calif.) and Erin Snook (Fr. / Tampa, Fla.) continued their strong doubles run with an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles. Brittney Boucher (Sr. / San Antonio, Texas) and Darien Sears (Fr. / Woodstock, Ga.) then clinched the doubles point with an 8-3 triumph at No. 3 doubles.
The Midshipmen then posted strong doubles performances, winning two of their four matches in three sets to grab the dual-meet victory. Snook started Navy off with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles for a 2-0 advantage. After Drexel won the next two matches to knot the score at 2-2, Navy won the final three matches decided. Sears recorded a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 4 singles for a 3-2 cushion. Moments later, Boucher clinched the victory with a 6-2, 1-6, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles. For good measure, Griffin took a three-set thriller at No. 1 singles, 3-6, 6-0, 7-5.
Navy hosts No. 34-ranked DePaul at 5:00 pm at the Brigade Sports Complex.
