BOSTON, Mass. -The ninth-seeded Western Ontario squash team dealt 16th-seeded Navy a 9-0 loss Friday afternoon in the opening round of the 2011 College Squash Association Team Championship Hoehn Division hosted by Harvard.
"Unfortunately we did not get off to a very good start to the tournament," said Navy head coach Craig Dawson. "We knew from past matches against Western Ontario that it would be a tough match, but we were hoping to give them a little tougher fight."
The Western Mustangs, in fact, won eight of nine matches in three games with junior Clayton Young (River Forest, Ill.) the lone Navy player to push his foe to a fourth game. Young, the Mids' No. 9 player, lost his first two games, 11-2 and 11-5, before forcing a fourth game thanks to his 12-10 victory in the third. Rafik Bhaloo, however, would not be denied as he took game four, 11-4.
The Midshipmen, who have dropped three-straight matches, will be back in action Saturday morning when they face St. Lawrence beginning at 9:00 am. The Saints were sent to the consolation bracket this afternoon after dropping a 5-4 decision to Brown. St. Lawrence defeated Navy earlier this season, 8-1.
