Lutz and Bouchard Successful at CSA Individual Championship

March 4, 2011

• Follow the Molloy Division Bracket

HANOVER, N.H. -- Navy squash standouts Hunter Bouchard (Greenville, Del.) and Allan Lutz (McLean, Va.) were among the more than 80 men's players who converged upon the campus of Dartmouth College to take part in the 2011 College Squash Association (CSA) Individual Championship held at the John W. Berry Sports Center on Friday. After the first day of action, both Navy players remain active in the competition with Bouchard still vying for the championship title in the Molloy Division.

Bouchard, who has had a hot racquet in recent weeks as the Mids' No. 2 player, opened the tournament with a rematch against his Bates foe whom he beat just a week ago at the CSA Team Championship. Bouchard, seeded No. 29 in the tournament, downed Nicholas Echeverria of Bates in three games last weekend and came back to quickly dispatch 38th-seeded Echeverria on Friday in another three-game decision, 11-7, 11-8, 11-8. Advancing to the round of 32, Bouchard turned in perhaps the biggest win of his collegiate career. The Navy sophomore upset fifth-seeded Rishi Jalan of Cornell in a five-game match to advance to the round of 16. After winning the opening game, 11-4, Bouchard dropped the next two games to find himself in a 2-1 deficit. Bouchard, however, battled back to win the fourth, 11-6, and force a fifth and deciding game. A contentious match ended with Bouchard claiming the win with a 12-10 victory.

Bouchard will face Brown's Adrian Leanza in the round of 16 on Saturday at 10:40 am.

Meanwhile, 18th-seeded Lutz kicked off the tournament with disappointing five-game loss to Columbia's Graham Miao. Navy's No. 1 player fell behind 2-0 right out of the gates, but fought his way back into the match with a 12-10 win in the third, followed by an 11-7 victory in the fourth. Miao, however, would outlast the Navy senior, as Lutz bowed out in the fifth, 12-10

Lutz bounced back nicely with a 3-1 victory over Andrew Kriete of Amherst in the first round consolation bracket. Lutz came up short in the opening game, but regrouped and took the next three games to remain alive in the tournament.

Lutz will meet Bowdoin's Stephan Danyluk in the consolation quarterfinals Saturday beginning at 11:35 am.
