Navy Women's Tennis Splits in Sunday Action

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy women's tennis team fell to Delaware in its first match of the day, but breezed past Coppin State in the nightcap on Sunday at the Brigade Sports Complex. The Mids are now 12-7 overall heading into an eight-day layoff.

The Mids fell to Delaware, 5-2, but defeated Coppin State, 6-0, in singles action only. Delaware improved to 1-1 overall, while Coppin State fell to 0-3.

Navy dropped the doubles point to Delaware by falling in two of the three doubles matches. Navy's lone doubles win came from Emani Decquir (So. / Sacramento, Calif.) and Stefanie Ton (So. / Milpitas, Calif.) at the No. 2 slot with an 8-3 decision over Ivana Petrich and Montse Ripoll.

Trailing 1-0 after doubles play, Amanda Griffin (Sr. / Roseville, Calif.) tied the match up briefly at 1-1 with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Megan Doran at No. 1 singles. Delaware won the next two finished matches, but Ton trimmed the Blue Hens' margin to 3-2 with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Samantha Carnall at No. 3 singles.

However, Delaware would win the next two finished matches for the 5-2 victory.

Navy then coasted in the match against Coppin State, losing just one game while all six singles players posted straight-set victories.

Caitlin Olsen (Fr. / Los Gatos, Calif.), Haley Adams (Fr. / Woodstock, Ga.), Natalie Houle (So. / The Woodlands, Texas), Cassi Kovac (Fr. / Sedona, Ariz.) and Katie Laderer (So. / Norfolk, Va.) all recorded 6-0, 6-0 triumphs. Dye Das (So. / Cherry Hill, N.J.) won her match at No. 1 singles by a 6-1, 6-0 score.

Navy will be off until March 14 when it faces Wayne State and Long Island in Orlando, Fla., beginning at 11:30 am.
