ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy women's tennis team picked up its 20th victory of the season with a pair of wins in its final home action of the regular season on Saturday. The Midshipmen defeated Bryant, 7-0, and Norfolk State, 5-2, to run its record to 20-9 overall.
Bryant falls to 8-9 overall, while Norfolk State drops to 4-14 overall. The two victories were Navy's sixth and seventh in a row, setting a new school record for consecutive dual-meet victories.
Two Navy seniors, Amanda Griffin (Roseville, Calif.) and Brittney Boucher (San Antonio, Texas) were playing in their final home regular-season action of their careers. The duo has led Navy to a 33-13 record during its two-year run as a varsity program.
"I was pleased with our performance today and we had good balance and depth in both matches," said Navy head coach Keith Puryear. "It was nice to send Amanda and Brittney out with a pair of victories on Senior Day."
Navy cruised past Bryant by winning all three doubles matches and all six singles matches, five of which came in straight sets.
Puryear received straight-set victories from Griffin at No. 1, Stefanie Ton (So. / Milpitas, Calif.) at No. 3, Darien Sears (Fr. / Silver Spring, Md.) at No. 4, Erin Snook (Fr. / Tampa, Fla.) at No. 5 and Boucher at No. 6.
For Ton, it was her seventh straight victory, tying a school record, while Sears and Snook each picked up their 21st win of the year, an ongoing school record.
The Midshipmen then won two-of-three doubles matches and four-of-six singles matches to claim a 5-2 victory over Norfolk State.
Navy took the doubles point thanks to wins by Natalie Houle (So. / The Woodlands, Texas) and Caitlin Olsen (Fr. / Los Gatos, Calif.) at No. 2 doubles and Haley Adams (Fr. / Woodstock, Ga.) and Katie Laderer (So. / Norfolk, Va.) at No. 3 doubles to wrap up the critical doubles point.
Navy won singles matches against the Spartans from Dye Das (So. / Cherry Hill, N.J.) at No. 1, Olsen at No. 4, Adams at No. 5 and Julia Zook (Fr. / Seattle, Wash.) at No. 6.
The Mids will close out the regular season on Tuesday, April 12, at Towson, beginning at 3:00 pm.
