CAMDEN, N.J. - TThe Navy heavyweight rowing team opened the 2011 IRA National Championships on Thursday on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J., in solid fashion as all of its crews earned a spot in their respective semifinal races. The varsity and second varsity boats earned semifinal spots with second-place finishes in their afternoon repechage races.

"We're well ahead of where we were last year," said Navy head coach Rick Clothier. "After having just one boat in the semifinals last year, we feel good about what we did today. We believe we have our best rows yet to come."
