ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- For the second time in three matches, the Navy women's tennis team rallied for a 4-3 victory after losing the doubles point, this time against Seton Hall to remain undefeated on the season at 8-0. Seton Hall falls to 0-5 on the season.
Navy's eight-match winning streak is now the second longest in school history, one shy of the school-record nine set last year. The Mids will try to match that mark Sunday against Manhattan, beginning at noon at the Tose Family Tennis Center at the Brigade Sports Complex.
Navy had to rally for a 4-3 win last weekend against Longwood after losing the doubles point and Navy had to do the same today against the Pirates. Navy's lone doubles victory came from juniors Emani Decquir (Sacramento, Calif.) and Stefanie Ton (Milpitas, Calif.) at No. 1 doubles, 8-4.
But Seton Hall won the final two completed doubles matches (Nos. 2-3) to win the doubles point and take a 1-0 match lead.
Navy would quickly tie the match at 1-1 when Ton won easily at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-1, but Seton Hall went back up 2-1 after a Pirates' victory at No. 1 singles.
Navy, however, won the next two finished matches by Decquir at No. 2 singles and Erin Snook (So. / Tampa, Fla.) at No. 4 singles for a 3-2 lead after four completed singles matches.
Noelle Kaufmann (Fr. / Westlake, Ohio) then clinched the match with a victory at No. 6 singles. Kaufmann also was the decisive point in the 4-3 win over Longwood last weekend.
Navy hosts Manhattan on Sunday at noon in Annapolis.
