Sept. 16, 2012

ANNAPOLIS, Md.. -- The No. 15-ranked Navy water polo team tied a school record by scoring 28 goals and 15 different players scored goals in a 28-4 decision over Washington & Jefferson on the final day of the Navy Invite at Macdonough Hall.

The win was Navy's 10th straight to start the season, moving Navy to 10-0. The start is Navy's best start to a season since beginning the 1984 season with 13 straight victories.

The 28 goals ties the school record set 29 years ago to the day, as Navy blasted Washington & Lee, 28-2, on Sept. 16, 1983.

Navy led 7-0 after one quarter, 15-2 at halftime and 22-3 after three quarters.

Erich Schwamb, Paul Pedrotty and Matt Newby each scored four goals, while freshman Garrett Sabesky added three netters. Anthony Gutierrez led four Navy goalkeepers with seven saves in goal.

Navy will open league play next weekend when it hosts Bucknell and Princeton on Saturday in Macdonough Hall. The Midshipmen will take on the Bison at 2:00 PM and Princeton at 7:00 PM. Admission is free to all Navy water polo games.
