ANNAPOLIS, Md. - In a mid-week meet against Johns Hopkins, the Navy men's and women's swimming and diving team swept the Blue Jays on Wednesday at Lejuene Hall. The men's team (6-4) won by a mark of 135-119, while the women's team (5-4) edged its opponent by 14, 137-123.

The Mids were able to tally 13 individual (seven men/six women) first-place finishes and one team relay victory (men's 200-yard medley).

"I thought our guys raced very well tonight, especially watching them race more aggressive than I expected," said head coach Bill Roberts. "I liked their focus and attack today and it will bode well moving forward towards the conference championships."

Leading the men's side were sophomore Tom Duvall and freshman Marlin Brutkiewicz. Both Mids placed first in two different events. Fresh off his Patriot League Swimmer of the Week award, Duvall placed first in the 100-yard (56.79) and 200-yard freestyle (1:39.89). Brutkiewicz claimed first in both the 100-yard (56.79) and 200-yard (2:04.93) breaststroke.

"Marlin [Brutkiewicz] and Tom [Duvall] swam well for us today, especially Marlin winning both breaststrokes at a very good pace," said Roberts.

The Mids tallied three more individual wins, two in the back stroke (100 & 200) and one in the 200-yard butterfly. Sophomore Noah Martin shined in the butterfly with a first-place finish of 1:53.20.

"Noah Martin swam well in the butterfly and it helped that he did not have to swim the 1000 in front of the event," said Roberts.

In the backstrokes, junior Brendan Walsh placed first in the 100 (51.14) and sophomore Alex Nickell claimed first in the 200 (1:53.29).

In the distance swimming events, teammates Rachael Dudley and Sara Lopez placed first in the 500 and 1000-yard freestyle. Dudley finished a full two seconds ahead of here competitors in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:08.29. Freshman Hannah Gilcrist outlasted her competition in the 100-yard breaststroke with a first-place time of 1:06.01, which was .82 hundreths of a second faster than Johns Hopkins' swimmer Pilar Shimizu.
