Oct. 18, 2014

Box Score

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Junior forward Jamie Dubyoski scored the game-winning goal in the 65th minute to lead Navy (8-4-2, 4-1-0) to a 1-0 win over visiting Bucknell (6-8-0, 2-3-0) on Saturday evening at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility. Navy has now posted four straight shutout victories over conference opponents.

"Any Patriot League win is a big win and this was a big win for us tonight against a good Bucknell team," said head coach Dave Brandt. "I thought we started pretty well. I think you can tell sometimes when a team hasn't played in a week like us, but I thought our guys did a really good job with it."

Dubyoski was sent on his run by junior forward Thomas Shiiba. Shiiba sent Dubyoski down the left side of the field and Dubyoski finished with his left foot for his team-best sixth goal of the year. Dubyoski has scored game-winning goals in back-to-back games. Shiiba was credited with his fifth assist of the season.

Junior goalkeeper Jackson Morgan matched his career-high of seven saves to earn his fourth straight shutout and his fifth of the season. Morgan has not allowed a goal in 395 minutes. Morgan made a nice save on Bucknell forward Jesse Klug in the 25th minute and made a diving save to his right to stop Austin Lenart's shot in the 78th minute.

Junior forward Derek Vogel led Navy with four shots and had a number of good scoring chances. Vogel headed a ball just wide left in the 29th minute and had another header go just wide in the 63rd minute. Vogel also had Navy's first shot on goal, which did not come until the 50th minute.

Sophomore Sam Bascom nearly scored for the second straight game, but his shot from 18 yards out in the 76th minute clanged off the right goal post.

Senior Joseph Greenspan logged the full 90 minutes on the defensive backline to help Navy post its sixth shutout of the season. Greenspan is currently tied for second place in program history with 2014 graduate Blake Busse for most career games played with 72.

Bucknell held a 14-11 edge in overall shots and a 7-3 edge in shots on goal. Bucknell also led in corner kicks, 4-2.

Brandt won his 299th career game on Saturday and he currently has a career record of 299-63-30.

Navy is 12-0-0 in its last 12 games played in the month of October.

With 12 points after five of nine conference games, Navy sits alone in second place in the Patriot League standings behind first-place Boston U. (15 points). American and Army are tied for third place with seven points each.

Navy will next host UMBC on Tuesday, October 21 at 7:00 PM in a non-conference match. Navy will return to conference play on Saturday, October 25 when the Mids host Holy Cross at 7:00 PM.
