ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy squash team (11-0) not only remained unbeaten this weekend by winning all five of its matches, the 13-man roster also helped lead the program to its 900th win while 15th-year head coach
Craig Dawson reached 300 wins.
"It's been an incredible journey for me personally to have been coached by
Craig Dawson," said Navy senior team captain Andrew McGuinness. "Our entire team has him to thank for our continued development and improvement. It's a great honor to have played a part in helping Coach Dawson earn his 300th win and I'm thankful to have been here to see it."
Dawson came into the match needing wins in four of the five matches. He captured his 300th win on Saturday following the Mids 9-0 victory over Hobart. He then began his march towards 400 just hours away when Navy scored a 9-0 sweep over Bucknell, as Dawson now boasts a 301-118 record.
Meanwhile, the Navy squash program, in his 67th year, picked up its 900th victory by way of a 9-0 win against Stanford on Friday evening.
In addition to wins over Stanford, Hobart and Bucknell, the Mids also claimed 9-0 victories over Georgetown on Friday and Denison on Saturday.
After mixing up the lineup a week ago, Dawson kept his top six players the same and shuffled the bottom half of the lineup throughout the weekend. Senior Andrew McGuinness (Merion Station, Pa.), freshman
Jack Herold (Chicago, Ill.), senior Jim Kacergis (Malvern, Pa.), junior
Bill Kacergis (Malvern, Pa.), freshman
Josh Hughes (Malvern, Pa.) and sophomore
Randy Beck (Lafayette Hill, Pa.) played the first six spots on the ladder and improved to 10-0 on the year following wins in each of the five matches this weekend.
Junior
Carson Craig made (Haymarket, Va.) his first collegiate appearance in a varsity match and looked sharp in an 11-2, 11-4, 11-4 victory over Georgetown's Matthijs Van Duijl Friday evening.
Second-year standout
Will Walker (Scarborough, N.Y.) continues to roll, as he tacked on four wins over the weekend to push his career mark to 13-1.
A week ago, senior Colin Barry (St. Louis, Mo.) saw his classmates Jim Kacergis and McGuinness earn their 60th career victories. On paper, Barry joined them by winning four matches. However one of Barry's four wins was by default (Denison). While the win counted towards the team win, it does not count towards his individual record. Barry, therefore, will look ahead to 10th-ranked Princeton for his next shot at picking up that 60th victory.
Navy will play its final home match of the calendar year next Sunday when it plays host to Princeton. Action is set for 11:00 am at the Halsey Field House International Squash Courts.
"We've had a great first two weeks of competition and today I thought Hobart pushed us probably more than any other team at this point," said Dawson. "We will use the next week to prepare for what will be a big test for our program in a talented Princeton team."
