Schroeder Finishes 182nd at NCAA Men's Cross Country Championship

Nov. 22, 2014

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Navy men's cross country junior Steve Schroeder (Monticello, Ill.) placed 182nd out of 246 runners at the NCAA Championship on Saturday at LaVern Gibson Course in Terre Haute, Indiana.

"I was unsatisfied with the result that I finished with in today's meet," Schroeder said. "I will be able to run with a chip on my shoulder having been able to reach this level but will get ready for the upcoming track and field season to better myself for next season."

Schroeder finished the race with a time of 32:19.00 for 182nd place. The Monticello, Illionis native ran a strong race for the first 5,000m as he was in the mix for a top-40 finish, but back spasms held him back for the final 5,000m.

"The experience that I am able to take from the meet is huge because course not only tested me physically but mentally as well," Schroeder said. "Not having my teammates run along with me to push me or for me to feel the need to push myself to lead my teammates helped me understand how I will need to prepare if I am in this situation again next year."

Oregon sophomore Edward Cheserek took home the individual crown with a mark 30:19.4. Colorado grabbed the team title out of 31 teams with a score of 65 points. Villanova led the Mid-Atlantic region with a seventh-place finish of 230 points.
