Final Stats

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy men's tennis (8-4) defeated Delaware, 7-0 and Coppin State, 7-0, Saturday at Brigade Sports Complex.

Navy began with Delaware in the first match of the day. The Mids opened up by grabbing the doubles point from No. 1 (8-6) and No. 2 (8-4) doubles teams.

In the No. 5 flight, Krishna Jana (Seabrook, Texas) defeated Roy Cheng in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1. Teammate Austin Jones (Dallas, Texas), in the No. 3 singles, took his match in straight sets against Adam Lawton, 6-1, 6-2. Blake Daniel (Overland Park, Kan.) tallied the fourth and final point against Mike Furr, 6-4, 6-2, to win the first match.

Alex Gaines (No. 6), Calvin Mark (No. 1) and Austin Jones (No. 2) all tallied wins in their respective matches, in order, to complete the seven-point sweep of the Blue Hens.

Navy continued its dominance in the second match against Coppin State, winning the doubles point in convincing fashion, 8-1 in the No. 1 flight (Daniel/Mark) and 8-2 in the No. 2 flight (Jones/Tossavainen).

Jana (No. 5) finished his match first, as he did in against Delaware, in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0, versus Patrick Thomas. Alex Gaines (No. 6) and Daniel (No.3) followed their teammate's success with straight set wins against their respective opponents to grab the match's third and fourth point.

Tossavainen (No. 4), Mark (No. 2) and Jones (No.1) each won their match to finish the second-straight match sweep, 7-0, to improve to 8-4 on the season.

Navy will look to carry its success Saturday, March 8 against George Washington at Brigade Sports Complex. The match is slated for 12 noon.
