ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy men's tennis team ran its winning streak to five matches with a 7-0 victory over UMES Saturday morning at the Tose Family Tennis Center in Annapolis.
The Mids (13-5) dropped only two games in winning each of the six matches contested between the teams. Navy's doubles tandems, which were comprised of Calvin Mark (Jr., Union City, Calif.) and Tyler Tossavainen (Fr., Fleming Island, Fla.) at No. 1 and Alex Gaines (So., Wilmington, N.C.) and Krishna Jana (Fr., Seabrook, Texas) at No. 2, each recorded 8-0 victories. In singles, Jana at No. 2, Tossavainen and No. 3 and Gaines at No. 4 all won without losing a game. Mark played No. 1 singles and won his match by set scores of 6-1, 6-1.
"Our guys played with a great deal of sportsmanship today," said Navy head coach John Officer. "We are just several levels better than UMES is. They have a very nice coach in Benjamin Woods. We handled ourselves with a lot of class during the matches."
Navy will be back in the Tose Family Tennis Center Sunday for a 2:30 p.m. match against Richmond.
