Navy Men's Soccer Voted Patriot League Preseason Favorites

Patriot League Preseason Poll Release

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - The No. 25 Navy men's soccer team has been voted as the preseason favorites to win the Patriot League, according to the league's preseason poll. The Patriot League's head coaches and sports information directors vote on the poll and they could not vote for their own teams or student-athletes. Navy received 17 out of a possible 18 first-place votes.

Navy led the preseason poll with 161 points and was followed by Army (143), Bucknell (118) and American (109). Rounding out the poll was Holy Cross (100), Boston U. (85), Lafayette (57), Loyola (56), Colgate (51) and Lehigh (20).

Navy senior Joseph Greenspan has been named the Patriot League Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and junior Jamie Dubyoski has been named the Patriot League Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. Greenspan, Dubyoski and junior defender Derek Vogel have all been named to the Preseason All-Patriot League Team.

Greenspan was the 2013 Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year and Dubyoski was the 2013 Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year. Greenspan, Dubyoski and Vogel were all named to the 2013 All-Patriot League First Team and all three earned NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Region honors last season.

Greenspan has also been named to the Top Drawer Soccer Preseason Best XI First Team, the College Soccer News Preseason All-America First Team and he is on the MAC Herman Trophy Watch List.

Greenspan and Vogel anchored Navy's defensive backline as a center back duo last season, helping Navy rank 15th in the NCAA in goals-against average (0.70), while posting a school-record 11 shutouts. Greenspan also added seven goals while Vogel had two goals and three assists for seven points.

Dubyoski led Navy with 10 goals and three assists for 23 points in 2013. He ranked second in the conference in both goals and points last season. He took a school-record 62 shots and three of his goals were game-winners.

Navy won the Patriot League Regular Season and Tournament Championships in 2013 with a 16-4-2 overall record. The Mids defeated VCU in the NCAA First Round and finished the season with an RPI ranking of 21.
