Setting the Stage

• Navy and Temple will meet for the 11th time on the gridiron when they square off on Saturday afternoon at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. Kickoff is set for 1:00 pm.

• This will be the sixth meeting in the last 10 years between the two schools, however it is Navy's first trip to Philadelphia to play Temple since August 31, 2007, when the Mids defeated the Owls, 30-19.

• Saturday's game will be broadcast by ESPN3 with Dave Leno and Ken Dunek calling the action.

• The Navy Football Tailgate Show on WNAV 1430 AM / 99.9 FM will air at 11:00 am with Robert Bode, Chloe Gunther and Wiley Baker live from the WNAV studio and with Joe Miller reporting from Lincoln Financial Field.

• The Navy Football Pregame Show with Pete Medhurst, Omar Nelson and Joe Miller will get underway at 12 noon, followed by game action beginning at 1:00 pm on the Navy Radio Network.

• Following the contest, Medhurst, Miller and Baker will recap the day's events in a 60-minute postgame show

live on WNAV 1430 AM / 99.9 FM and WFED 1500 AM.

Philly Strong

• Lincoln Financial Field has become a home away from home for Navy as the Mids are 10-0 all-time at the stadium in South Philly.

• The Mids are 9-0 against Army at the Linc and 1-0 against Temple.

Scouting Temple

• The Owls were one of the more impressive teams of the opening weekend, going on the road and hammering Vanderbilt of the SEC, 37-7.

• Quarterback P.J. Walker completed 23 of his 34 passes for 207 yards and two touchdowns.

• Walker's favorite target was Nate Hairston, who caught seven passes for 48 yards.

• Temple rushed for 144 yards on 45 carries against Vandy with Jamie Gilmore leading the way with 65 yards on just nine carries.

• Defensively, Temple is led by one of the top linebackers in the country in Tyler Matakevich, who recorded six tackles in the opener.

• The Temple defense forced seven Vanderbilt turnovers as the Commodores lost four fumbles and threw three interceptions.

Navy vs. the American

• The Midshipmen are 33-27-1 (.549) all-time against teams currently in the American Athletic Conference, the conference Navy will join in 2015.

• Navy has faced Tulane (7-11-1) more than any other team from the American, followed by SMU (9-7) and Temple (5-5).

Mids Hang Tough Against NO. 5 Ohio State

• (AP) - Fifth-ranked Ohio State took advantage of two mistakes and pulled away to a 34-17 victory over the Midshipmen at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore last Saturday in both programs' opener.

• Navy held a 7-6 lead and was driving on the opening series of the second half when Ohio State's Joey Bosa hit Keenan Reynolds as the quarterback was tossing a pitch to Demond Brown. The ball got loose and Darron Lee took it 61 yards the other way for a touchdown.

• That might have been enough to send Navy reeling, but the Midshipmen immediately responded. Ryan Williams-Jenkins ran 67 yards to the Ohio State 17, and Reynolds scored from the 1 to put Navy up 14-13. That gave Reynolds a touchdown in nine straight games, tying the school record.

• Later in the third quarter, the Buckeyes made their move. Devin Smith got behind the Navy defense on the right side, caught a pass from redshirt freshman J.T. Barrett and broke a tackle for an 80-yard score. It was the longest touchdown against the Midshipmen since an 87-yarder by Tulane in November 2004.

• After Navy closed to 20-17 with 13:54 remaining, the Buckeyes launched a 10-play drive that featured just one pass. Ezekiel Elliott converted a fourth-and-1 from the Navy 45 and Barrett threw a 19-yard completion before Elliott ran in from the 10.

• Barrett's 9-yard touchdown pass to Mike Thomas made it 34-17 with 2:09 left, and the Midshipmen were done.

• Ohio State won despite allowing Navy's triple-option attack to amass 370 yards on the ground, including 118 by Williams-Jenkins.

• Navy drove to the Ohio State 18 on the final possession of the first half before Nick Sloan missed a 36-yard field goal, keeping the Buckeyes' deficit at 7-6.

• Throwing mostly short, passes, Barrett went 8 for 11 for 96 yards and an interception before halftime. His first play at Ohio State was a pass completion for 14 yards. Although he appeared comfortable in the no-huddle offense, the Buckeyes quickly punted.

• Ohio State's next possession began with four straight runs, followed by a sack. A shovel pass on a third-and-21 gained 16 yards to set up a 46-yard field goal by freshman Sean Nuernberger.

• Navy answered with an 11-play drive, 10 of them runs, capped by a 1-yard touchdown sweep by DeBrandon Sanders.

• Midway through the second quarter, Barrett went 4 for 4 for 54 yards to bring the Buckeyes to the Navy 8. But he hurried a first-down pass and was intercepted by Parrish Gaines.

• Barrett's inexperience showed again on the next series, when Ohio State had to settle for a field goal. On a third-and-2 from the Navy 4, Barrett rolled right and pitched too late to Elliott, who was smothered for a 7-yard loss.

Navy's Opponents Off To A Fast Start

• Navy's opponents went 8-2 (.800) on the opening weekend and outscored its foes by a combined score of 431-202 (43.1 - 20.2).

• One of the two losses was by Georgia Southern, who lost by just one point on the road to NC State, 24-23.

• The biggest wins of the week were Temple winning at Vanderbilt, 37-7; Rutgers winning at Washington State, 41-38; and Western Kentucky hanging 59 on Bowling Green in a 59-31 victory.

Navy In Road Openers

• Navy is 3-3 under Navy head coach Ken Niumatalolo in road openers. The Mids have won three of their last four.

• The Mids have won games at Louisiana Tech, Western Kentucky and Indiana and lost at Ball State, Ohio State and Penn State.

• Navy has six players on its roster from the state of Pennsylvania.

• Senior starting guard Jake Zuzek hails from Brookhaven, junior starting nose guard Bernard Sarra is from Monessen, junior defensive end David Gordeuk is from Port Matilda, sophomore offensive tackle Patrick Hoffman is from Audobon, senior defensive lineman Chris Nurthen is from Phoenixville and senior linebacker Maika Polamalu is from Pottstown.
