ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Junior Kelley Robinson's (Nederland, Colo.) sixth-place mark of 22:37.88 led Navy women's cross country to a second-place finish at the Salty Dog Invitational Saturday at the USNA Cross Country Course.
"I was very impressed with the way our team packed together from the two and half mile marker to the finish," Navy head coach Karen Boyle said. "Despite a slow start, I liked the way we regrouped and have Kelley [Robinson] and Lindsay [Rheiner] push our team at the end to finish strong."
After Robinson crossed the tape, senior Lindsay Rheiner (Wycombe, Pa.) was six-seconds behind to place eighth with a mark of 22:46.57. Junior Meghan Harvey (23:08.73), senior Christina Blair (Peninsula, Ohio) and freshman Allison Parks (23:12.12) finished 12th, 13th and 14th, respectively, to round out Navy's five scoring runners.
Navy's 59 team points was second best behind Johns Hopkins 26 points. Richmond placed third with 78, UMBC earned fourth with 100 points and George Washington tallied 154 points to round out the top five. McDaniel (177), Maryland (177), Loyola (238), American (260), Howard (317) and Bowie State (350 completed the field of 11 in that order.
Navy will have a week off to regroup before competing in the 29th annual Roy Griak Invite, hosted by Minnesota on Saturday, Sept. 27. The meet is scheduled for 12 p.m.
