ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The No. 22 Navy men's soccer team (3-2-1) will play at NJIT (3-2-1) on Saturday at 5:00 PM at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium in Newark, N.J. Live statistics and live video, for $6.95, will be available.
Navy is looking to rebound from a 2-1 double-overtime loss to George Washington on Tuesday. Both of Navy's losses (GW, Denver) this season have come in overtime.
Junior forward Jamie Dubyoski leads Navy with eight points and his three goals are tied for the team lead with sophomore midfielder Daniel Camuti. Junior forward Thomas Shiiba, who scored against George Washington, has two goals and one assist for five points. Junior forward Derek Vogel also has five points, on one goal and a team-best three assists.
Freshman goalkeeper Mac Burke has started the past two games for Navy and is 1-1 with a 1.11 goals-against average and a .667 save percentage.
Navy is currently ranked sixth in the nation in total points (42) and is 11th in total goals (13). The Mids are 21st in the country in goals per game (2.17). Navy leads the Patriot League in goals per game, assists per game and points per game.
Navy has scored at least one goal in 23 straight games.
The Mids made their return to the NSCAA Top 25 poll earlier this week, coming in at No. 22. The Mids were vaulted back into the rankings on the strength of their 2-1 win over then-No. 10 Maryland and a 3-1 win at Central Connecticut State last week.
Navy defeated NJIT, 3-1, in Annapolis last season. Senior Grant Valenstein scored in the 14th minute and senior Joseph Greenspan put Navy ahead 2-0 on a penalty kick in the 48th minute. NJIT responded in the 53rd minute on a goal by Marko Drljic, but Dubyoski gave Navy an insurance goal in the 82nd minute. That was the first ever meeting between Navy and NJIT.
The Highlanders are 2-0-1 in their last three matches and are coming off a 3-1 win over LIU-Brooklyn on Wednesday. NJIT also recently tied Fordham, 1-1, and defeated Marist, 1-0.
Drljic leads NJIT with six points on two goals and two assists and Christian Marcel has scored twice.
Goalkeeper Christian Foust is 3-2-1 with a 1.46 goals-against average and a .743 save percentage. Foust has made 26 saves in six games.
Navy will next host Longwood on Tuesday at 7:00 PM at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility. Navy last played Longwood in 2012, earning a 3-0 win on the road. Shiiba and Valenstein both scored against the Lancers in that contest.
