NEWARK, N.J. - The No. 22 Navy men's soccer team (3-3-1) fell on the road at NJIT (4-2-1), 1-0, on Saturday afternoon at Mal Simon Stadium.
The Highlanders scored the game's lone goal in the 21st minute. Marko Drljic sent a cross into the box, which Navy goalkeeper Jackson Morgan got his hands on, but couldn't cover. Joshua Mercer then tapped in an easy rebound to give NJIT the lead.
After scoring, NJIT dropped back and became a very defense-oriented team. Navy applied the pressure, but wasn't able to find a goal.
Navy outshot NJIT, 12-6, in the game and held a 9-2 edge in shots after halftime. Navy also held a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.
Junior forward Jamie Dubyoski had a game-high five shots with two being on target.
Junior goalkeeper Jackson Morgan returned to the lineup after missing the past two games. Morgan made just one save, as Navy held NJIT to just two shots on goal in the contest.
NJIT goalkeeper Christian Foust made seven saves in the shutout.
Navy had its streak of 23 straight games with at least one goal snapped.
"I think the reality is that we haven't been the same team since the Maryland game," head coach Dave Brandt said. "We've got some things to work on and we just haven't been sharp."
Navy will next host Longwood on Tuesday at 7:00 PM at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.
