ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy women's tennis team hosted a successful Bill & Sandra Moore Invitational this weekend at the Brigade Sports Complex. Navy reached the finals of both doubles flights and one singles flight.

"We would have definitely liked to come through and win a couple of those finals so it was a little bit of a bummer today," said head coach Keith Puryear. "But it's a learning process. We have to take it and learn from it and keep trying to improve. There was definite improvement from last week to this week and I thought this was the toughest field that we've ever had. A lot of these teams are much improved and I think our results say a lot about how well we have been playing."

Freshman Amanda Keller, who won the "D" flight at the Stony Brook Invitational last weekend, reached the finals of the "B" flight this weekend with a 3-1 record. Keller defeated Lehigh's Breezy Maravich, 6-2, 6-1, in the first round and then knocked off James Madison's Emily Bradshaw, 6-4, 6-2 in the quarters. Keller beat George Mason's Olivia Lacy-Thompson, 6-0, 6-2, in the semifinals, before falling to Fairleigh Dickinson's Shreya Pasricha in the "B" flight final, 6-2, 6-1.

Junior Sam Droop reached the semifinals of the "A" flight. Droop beat Towson's AJ Gomer in the first round battle, 7-6 (7-1), 4-6, 1-0 (11-9) and then defeated George Mason's Brittany Pilkington, 6-2, 6-1 in the quarterfinals. Droop fell to Fairleigh Dickinson's Ksenija Tihomirova in a battle in the final, 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (14-12).

Freshman Kristine Rojo won two matches in the "C" singles flight and freshman Claudia Mackenzie won two matches in the "D" singles flight.

Mackenzie and junior Katie Porter reached the finals of the "A" doubles flight before falling to James Madison's Alex Huie and Taylor Pinchoff, 8-1. Porter and Mackenzie defeated JMU's Kimmy Herrock and Cara Wirth (JMU), 8-7 (7-5), in the first round and then beat George Mason's Brittany Pilkington and Elizabeth Sutherland, 8-4, in the quarters. The duo beat Towson's Ayana Dow and Barbara Vasilkova, 8-3, in the semifinal before falling to the JMU team in the championship.

In addition to going 3-1 in singles action, Keller went 3-1 in doubles play to reach the finals of the "B" flight. Keller teamed with sophomore Allie Pavlansky and the duo beat St. Bonaventure's Fatya Amiri and Lauren Doversola, 8-6, in the first round. Keller and Pavlansky then defeated Loyola's Emily Hughes and Olivia Ott, 8-3, in the quarters and Lehigh's Abby Farrell and Cassidy Cruz in the semifinals, 8-4. Keller and Pavlansky fell to James Madison's Emily Bradshaw and Dylan Owens in the championship, 8-2.

Through two tournaments, Keller is now 7-1 this season in singles play and 3-2 in doubles for a combined record of 10-3.

Navy will next compete at the Wake Forest Invitational from October 3-5.
