RICHMOND, Va. - The Navy women's tennis team (2-2) fell to Richmond (1-1), 5-2, on Saturday afternoon. Richmond won the doubles point and four of the six singles matches.
"We did play better than we did last weekend against James Madison," said head coach Keith Puryear. "We have to continue to improve and need to make some adjustments on how we are playing and on the things we can control. We started slow in the doubles and its tough when you get down in a big hole."
Richmond swept the doubles point, winning 8-0 at No. 1, 8-4 at No. 2 and 8-3 at No. 3.
The Mids earned a pair of singles victories at the No. 4 and No. 5 slots.
Sophomore Allie Pavlansky defeated Brittany Boys at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-3.
Freshman Kristine Rojo won at No. 5 singles over Katya Salas, 6-3, 6-4.
Junior Sam Droop lost a tough match at No. 1 singles. After falling 6-3 in the first set, she posted a 6-1 win in the second set. However, Droop fell 14-12 in the third set tiebreaker.
"We have to come back and get ready for Villanova tomorrow," said Puryear.
Navy will host Villanova on Sunday at 2:00 PM at the Tose Family Tennis Center in the Brigade Sports Complex.
