Setting the Stage • #21/#22 Navy (9-2, 7-1 in the American) and Army West Point (2-9) will meet on the gridiron for the 116th time when the two square off at 3:00 PM on Saturday at Lincoln Financial Field (69,176) in Philadelphia. The Army-Navy game is presented by USAA.
• Navy enters the contest looking to defeat Army for a series-record 14th straight year. Prior to Navy's historic run, the longest winning streak in the series, which was first played in 1890, was five games (by both teams). Navy has outscored Army, 417-142, during its 13-game winning streak (average score of 32-11). The Mids have won 15 of the last 16 against the Black Knights.
• A win over Army West Point would also bring the Commander-In-Chief's Trophy back to Annapolis after a one-year hiatus. Navy has won the CIC Trophy in nine of the last 12 years. The Mids beat Air Force earlier this year, 33-11.
• With a victory over Army West Point, Navy head coach
Ken Niumatalolo (7-0 against Army) would tie the all-time wins mark by a coach in the Army-Navy game. College Football Hall of Famer Col. Earl "Red" Blaik of Army West Point was 8-8-2 in his career against Navy.
• A win over Army West Point would tie the school record for wins with 10. Navy also won 10 games in 1905, 2004 and 2009.
• Dating back to last year, Navy has won 15 of its last 18 games with losses against nationally-ranked programs Notre Dame twice and at Houston on Nov. 27.
• Navy has been ranked in both polls for the last five weeks, which is the most consecutive weeks it has been ranked since 1963 when the Mids were ranked all 12 weeks.
• Senior quarterback
Keenan Reynolds has scored 83 career touchdowns (all rushing), which are the most in NCAA FBS history for rushing touchdowns. Reynolds is just one touchdown behind Georgia Southern's Adrian Peterson and Towson's Terrance West for the overall Division I record (includes FBS and FCS).
• His 83 career total touchdowns (combined rushing and receiving) are tied for the most in NCAA FBS history with Montee Ball of Wisconsin and current player Kenneth Dixon of Louisiana Tech. Reynolds has two games remaining, Dixon has one.
• Reynolds has rushed for a school-record 4,279 yards in his career, passing the legendary Napoleon McCallum against Tulsa for the record. Reynolds has the fifth-most rushing yards in NCAA history for a quarterback. He is 10 yards behind fourth-place Brad Smith of Missouri and 64 yards behind Jordan Lynch of Northern Illinois for third.
• Reynolds needs just 36 yards passing to become the first quarterback in school history to rush AND pass for 1,000 yards in a season twice in a career. He is tied for first in school history for career touchdown passes with 29.
• With a win over Army West Point, Reynolds would become the first quarterback in the history of the Army-Navy game to go 4-0 as a starter.
• Saturday's game will be televised nationally by CBS. The network kicks off its coverage at 2:30 PM with COLLEGE FOOTBALL TODAY, followed by the 116th playing of the Army-Navy game at 3:00 PM with Verne Lundquist, Gary Danielson and Allie LaForce calling the action.
• ESPN's College Game Day will be live from Philadelphia at XFINITY LIVE from 9:00-11:00 AM with Rece Davis, Kirk Herbstreit, Lee Corso and Desmond Howard.
• CBS Sports Network will air two special editions of INSIDE COLLEGE FOOTBALL on Saturday prior to the game - INSIDE COLLEGE FOOTBALL ARMY-NAVY MARCH ON presented by USAA (12:00-1:30 PM) and INSIDE COLLEGE FOOTBALL ARMY-NAVY TAILGATE presented by USAA (1:30-2:30 PM). Hosts Dana Jacobson and John Schriffen will be joined in Philadelphia by analysts Randy Cross, Christian Fauria and Houston Nutt, as well as special guests from both of the academies. The MARCH-ON SPECIAL features the March-On of the Brigade of Midshipmen and Corps of Cadets as they march on to Lincoln Financial Field, while ARMY-NAVY TAILGATE celebrates the purest rivalry in sports.
• WBAL Radio (1090 AM) will air an expanded preview show next Saturday with Keith Mills as the host starting at 12 noon. The Navy Football Tailgate Show on WNAV 1430 AM / 99.9 FM will air at 1:00 PM, while the Navy Football Pregame Show with Pete Medhurst,
Omar Nelson and Joe Miller will get underway at 2:00 PM, followed by game action beginning at 3:00 PM on the Navy Radio Network. Following the contest, the trio will recap the day's events in a 60-minute postgame show.
• Westwood One has the national radio rights and will feature John Sadak calling the play-by-play, NFL great James Lofton will handle the color commentary and Derek Rackley will be the sideline reporter. Westwood One will also air a one-hour pregame show starting at 2:00 PM.
Game Day Festivities • The March-On of the Corps of Cadets will take place at 12:16 PM.
• The Brigade of Midshipmen will march on at 12:46 PM.
• The exchange of Cadets and Midshipmen (exchange students) will take place at 2:46 PM.
• Weather permitting, the Golden Knights and Leap Frogs are scheduled to jump at 2:50 PM.
• The National Anthem will take place at 3:00 PM.
• The ceremonial coin toss will take place at 3:04 PM.
• Navy will take the field at 3:06:15 PM with an F/A 18F flyover from the squadron VFA-213, the "Black Lions" out of Naval Air Station Oceana, Va.
• Army will take the field at 3:07 PM with a flyover of Apache helicopters.
• At the conclusion of the game, the losing team will sing its alma mater in front of its respective student body with the winning team standing amongst them. The two teams will then move across the field where the winning team will sing its alma mater in front of its student body with the losing team respectfully standing amongst them. It is the greatest tradition in all of sports.
The Commander-In-Chief's Trophy • The Commander-In-Chief's Trophy is presented annually to the winner of the football competition among the three major service academies -- Army West Point, Navy and Air Force -- and is named in honor of the President of the United States.
• Navy has dominated of late, winning the trophy nine of the last 12 years and winning 23 of the last 26 Service Academy games against Air Force and Army West Point in the process.
• Navy has won the trophy a total of 14 times: 1973, 1975, 1978, 1979, 1981, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2012 and 2013.
• When there is no clear-cut winner, the trophy remains with the winner of the previous year's competition.
• The three-sided trophy stands two-and-a-half-feet tall and is engraved with the academy seals. Reproductions of the three mascots -- the Army West Point Mule, the Navy Goat and the Air Force Falcon -- are ensconced on the respective sides of this bauble. The trophy is sponsored by the West Point Association of Graduates, the Naval Academy Alumni Association and the Air Force Association of Graduates.
• The year in which the trophy is won is engraved on a plate gracing the respective academy's side of the trophy.
Consecutive Wins Over One Opponent • Navy's 13-game winning streak over Army West Point is the longest winning streak in the country by one team over another.
• Other current lengthy streaks include Wisconsin over Minnesota (12 straight), Oregon over Washington (12), Florida over Tennessee (12) and Cincinnati over Miami of Ohio (11).
Two over 1,000 Yards Rushing? • Senior quarterback
Keenan Reynolds has rushed for 1,093 yards on the year, while senior fullback
Chris Swain has rushed for 847.
• If Swain can rush for 153 yards over the last two games, he and Reynolds will be just the second duo in school history to rush for more than 1,000 yards in a season.
• In 2003, fullback Kyle Eckel rushed for 1,249 yards, while quarterback Craig Candeto rushed for 1,112 yards as the Mids posted an 8-5 record, won the Commander-In-Chief's Trophy and went to a bowl game for the first time since 1996.
Bowl Eligible Opponents • Navy is 5-2 (.714) against teams headed to a bowl game with victories at UConn, Air Force, USF, at Memphis and at Tulsa. Navy's only losses were at Notre Dame and at Houston.
