ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy women's tennis team (3-2) knocked off Villanova (0-3), 6-1, on Sunday afternoon at the Tose Family Tennis Center at the Brigade Sports Complex. Navy won the doubles point and won five of six singles matches.
"It was a solid win for us after coming off the late night match at Richmond last night," said head coach Keith Puryear. "It was a good turnaround for us and the team was playing on tired legs. We did a good job to get the doubles point and get off to a good start."
Juniors Katie Porter and Logan Antill teamed up for an 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles over Victoria Martinez and Samantha Schafer, 6-1. Navy clinched the doubles point with a win at No. 3 doubles as junior Mikaela Carlson and freshman Claudia Mackenzie got the win over Linley Busby and Kate Pettee, 7-5.
Antill also picked up a straight set win at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-3, over Alexandra Krogius.
Sophomore Audrey Channell rallied to defeat Martinez at No. 3 singles, 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-5). Sophomore Allie Pavlansky posted a three-set 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 win over Schafer at No. 4 singles.
Freshman Kristine Rojo won at No. 5 singles over Busby, 6-1, 6-3 and Porter won at No. 6 singles over Pettee, 6-3, 6-1.
Navy will next host both George Mason and Morgan State on Saturday, February 7.
