WILMINGTON, N.C. -- The Navy men's tennis team saw its seven-match winning streak come to an end with a 7-0 loss to No. 55 UNC Wilmington Saturday in Wilmington, N.C.

"It was a tough match against a prototypical ranked team," said Navy head coach Chris Garner. "They have 4-6 international players on it. It is unique in college tennis in that you aren't just facing the best players in the country, but you are playing against some of the best in the world. We want to keep putting our team in a position to improve and grow so they are competitive against a team like this."

The Seahawks (6-1), who advanced to the NCAA Tournament a year ago and ended the 2014 season ranked 50th nationally, recorded wins at the Nos. 1 and 3 doubles flight to earn the doubles point. Navy's (9-2) No. 2 team of Thomas Pecor (So., Houston, Texas) and Aries Wong (Fr., Betheda, Md.) held a 6-3 lead over Zach Hublitz and Javier Restrepo when the match was stopped due to UNCW securing the doubles point.

UNCW then won five straight-set singles matches to earn the overall victory. In the remaining match, Christiaan Van der Burgh posted a 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (10-5) victory over Calvin Mark (Sr., Union City, Calif.) at No. 1 singles.

"The guys are making the right steps to move forward as a team," said Garner. "They are supportive of each other and doing the things we are asking them to do and if they keep to work hard they will improve."

Navy will be home for a pair of matches on Feb. 22 when it plays host to Niagara (10 a.m.) and George Mason (2 p.m.)
