ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy women's tennis team (8-3) swept a doubleheader on Saturday at the Tose Family Tennis Center, defeating Seton Hall (1-4), 4-3, and defeating Longwood (3-3), 6-1. Navy has won three straight dual matches and six of its last seven.
Eight different Mids won singles matches on Saturday and eight Mids earned doubles victories.
"We had two big team victories today," said head coach Keith Puryear. "Every player played a hand in if not one than two matches today. Both of our opponents today are solid teams and we have always had tough matches with them. I like the direction we are moving. Obviously we can always improve upon things, but I was fairly pleased with how the team played."
Navy began the day by winning the doubles point against Seton Hall. Summer Ralston and Claudia Mackenzie won at No. 2 doubles, 8-6 and Noelle Kaufmann and Kristine Rojo clinched the point at No. 3 doubles, 8-6.
Freshman Amanda Keller picked up a 6-0, 7-6 (7-4) win at No. 4 singles over Katie Kim to put Navy ahead 2-0. After Seton Hall won at No. 1 singles and No. 6 singles to even the match at 2-2, sophomore Audrey Channell won in straight sets at No. 5 singles and junior Katie Porter clinched the team win with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles over Maria Quevado.
Navy went 2-1 in doubles play against Longwood with Logan Antill and Keller winning at No. 2 doubles and Mikaela Carlson and Rozel Hernandez winning at No. 3.
Carlson was the first to close her singles match, defeating Nicole Parker, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 6 singles. Ralston then won at No. 3 singles over Maria Coronel and Kaufmann clinched the team win at No. 4 singles with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles, Mason Thomas.
Mackenzie would also go on to win at No. 2 singles and Hernandez won at No. 5 singles.
Navy will next face Georgetown in Arlington, Va. on Thursday.
