Generi recorded a game-high eight points on six goals and two assists
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy women's lacrosse team (8-1, 2-0 Patriot League) dominated Bucknell (2-6, 0-1 PL) for the entire 60 minutes en route to a 21-4 victory Saturday afternoon at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
"Our focus today was finishing, whether it was finishing on the offensive or defensive end, and I think we did a great job of holding that focus for the entire game," Navy head coach Cindy Timchal said.
Senior attack Loren Generi (Bayport, N.Y.) was Navy's catalyst today, tallying a game-high eight points on six goals and two assists along with seven draw controls, two caused turnovers and one ground ball. Junior Katie Gallagher (Bel Air, Md.) recorded five points on three goals and two assists to extend her consecutive games with at least one point to 26. Sophomore Morgan Young (Baltimore, Md.) chipped in with a career-high four goals.
Navy jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead off the sticks of Gallagher and freshman Julia Collins (Clarksville, Md.) in the first 2:20.
Bucknell responded 51 seconds later as senior Emily Kookogey slashed through the middle of the cone and beat senior goalkeeper Annie Foky (Charlottesville, Va.) to cut the deficit to one, 2-1.
Navy came back with 12-straight goals to end the half with a 14-1 lead. Generi paced the Mids offense during the stretch, recording six points on four goals and two assists.
Generi carried over Navy's momentum in the second half, scoring the first two of the team's next five goals as the Mids extended their lead to 18, 19-1 with 11:22 remaining in the game. Both teams would trade goals in the final 11:22, including Navy freshman Carly Comitino (Glen Head, N.Y.) scoring her first career goal to give Navy the 21-4 win.
Foky finished the game with one save on two chances for the first 39:22 and freshman Ingrid Boyum (Herndon, Va.) tallied one save on four chances for the final 20:38.
Navy outshot Bucknell, 37-8 and held a sizeable advantage in ground balls, 20-8. Bucknell however was the first team that Navy has faced this season to win the draw control battle, 14-13.
Navy aims for its seventh consecutive win when it hosts American on Wednesday at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Opening draw is set for 4 p.m.
