EASTON, Pa. -- Tucker Massie (Fr., Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) lost a combined one game in winning his singles and doubles matches to help the Navy men's tennis team to a 4-0 victory over Lafayette Friday afternoon in Easton, Pa.

The match served as the Patriot League opener for the Mids who improved to 14-8 on the season with the victory, while the Leopards saw their records drop to 5-7 on the year and 1-3 in league matches with the loss.

"Today was a good way for us to start the Patriot League season," said Navy head coach Chris Garner.

Massie first teamed with Aries Wong (Fr., Bethesda, Md.) for an 8-0 victory over Mason Keel and Chris Matturri at No. 2 doubles. The Mids would earn the doubles point when Blake Daniel (Sr., Overland Park, Kan.) and Calvin Mark (Sr., Union City, Calif.) posted an 8-4 win over Jake Lazer and Brian Pinkard at the No. 1 flight.

Massie then quickly recorded a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Evan Alexander at No. 6 singles to give the Mids a 2-0 lead. Austin Jones (Jr., Dallas, Texas) also lost just one game in tallying a straight-set win for Navy over Lazer at No. 1 singles to make the score 3-0. Navy would clinch the match when Thomas Pecor (So., Houston, Texas) won a 6-0, 6-2 decision over Brian Pinkard at No. 2 singles.

"Tucker and Aries jumped out to an early lead in their doubles match," said Garner, "then Austin, Thomas and Tucker did the same in their singles matches. That really helped us get and then maintain the momentum."

Navy held a lead in two of the three matches that were halted when the Mids earned their match-clinching fourth point.

The Mids will remain in the Lehigh Valley overnight and will face Lehigh Saturday at 11 a.m. in Bethlehem.

"I am sure the guys are excited to be playing another league match tomorrow," said Garner. "It should be another good one."
