ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy men's tennis team won all but one match on its way to tallying a doubleheader sweep of Delaware and Coppin State Saturday at the Tose Family Tennis Center in Annapolis. The Mids defeated the Blue Hens by the count of 6-1 and posted a 5-0 victory over the Eagles.

"It was great in that over the course of the whole day we were able to get everyone in to play," said Navy head coach Chris Garner. "The more often we can do that, the more experience they all get and the more competitive they can become. It doesn't matter if they are number one or number 13 on our team, they are getting those opportunities to play which I think will help them through the course of their college career here."

The Mids won each of the three doubles matches against the Blue Hens to earn the doubles point. Navy's No. 1 team of Blake Daniel (Sr., Overland Park, Kan.) and Calvin Mark (Sr., Union City, Calif.) didn't drop a game in defeating Tyler Flemmatti and Shane Jeffray in the first match to be completed. The Mids clinched the doubles point when their No. 3 tandem of Krishna Jana (So., Seabrook, Texas) and Walker Sims (Fr., Memphis, Tenn.) recorded an 8-4 win over Mike Furr and Alex Sweet. In the remaining match at the No. 2 flight, Thomas Pecor (So., Houston, Texas) combined with Aries Wong (Fr., Bethesda, Md.) for an 8-6 win over Matt Renzi and Colin Wong.

Pecor made the score 2-0 in favor of Navy when he posted a 6-0, 6-0 win over Renzi at No. 3 singles. Mark soon followed with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Furr at the No. 1 flight, then Tyler Tossavainen (So., Fleming Island, Fla.) secured the overall victory for Navy with his 6-4, 6-3 win over Tim Puterio at No. 5 singles.

Aries Wong gave the Mids their fifth point of the match when he defeated Flematti, 6-1, 7-5, at No. 4 singles. Colin Wong earned Delaware's lone point when he tallied a 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-5) victory over Joshua Martin (Fr., Foley, Ala.) at No. 6 singles, then Daniel closed out the dual with a 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (11-9) win over Jeffray at the No. 2 flight.

"The doubles point was competitive," said Garner, "and then couple of the guys, Cal and Thomas, really built a big lead early on. The other matches were very competitive throughout the course of all three sets. Josh battled. His match could have gone either way. He has won a lot of matches for us this spring. He tripped up just once, but I am sure he will get back up on his horse and start again."

Jana and Sims also would combine for a doubles win over Coppin State (0-2), with the tandem of Alex Gaines (Jr., Wilmington, N.C.) and Tucker Massie (Fr., Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) recording the other doubles victory for Navy in the dual. Each of those four players would go on to win straight-set singles matches against the Eagles.

Navy will be back in the Tose Family Tennis Center Monday at 5 p.m. when the Mids play host to Radford.
