CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Senior Courtney Swan's game-high six points on four goals and two assists helped No. 4 Virginia (9-4) squeak by the Navy women's lacrosse team (10-3), 15-13, Wednesday night at Klockner Stadium. Navy will return to league play at Lehigh on Wednesday, April 8 in Bethlehem, Pa.

Freshman twins Jenna and Julia Collins (Clarksville, Md.) paced the Mids offense, combining for seven points on six goals and one assist. Junior Katie Gallagher (Bel Air, Md.) recorded a game-high three assists on the day and extended her consecutive games with at least one point to 30. Seniors Loren Generi (Bayport, N.Y.) and Casey Browne (Miller Place, N.Y.) each tallied two goals.

Senior goalkeeper Annie Foky (Charlottesville, Va.) tallied seven saves on 22 chances. Foky's seven saves tied a season high, which she had against then-No. 8 Duke on Feb. 15.

"I am proud of the way that our team responded down five in the first half to outscore a very tough ranked Virginia in the second half on the road," Navy head coach Cindy Timchal said. "Watching our defense pick up its play in the second half to result into more offensive possessions was huge and we will take this competitive game and its positives back into league play against Lehigh."

Down five to start the second half, Navy came roaring back with five of the next seven goals to bring the game within three, 12-9, with 17:10 remaining in the contest. Julia Collins led the charge with two goals on the back end of the run for the Mids.

Following a Virginia tally, Browne and Julia Collins each recorded an unassisted goal to cut the deficit to one, 13-12, with 7:13 left in the contest.

Swan facilitated Virginia's next two goals to bring the Cavalier's lead back up to three, 15-12, with 4:55 left.

Gallagher dished to Julia Collins as she cut inside the eight-meter cone and finished the play off to bring Navy within two, but it was not enough as the Mids fell 15-13.

Virginia came out strong in the first half, scoring the first two goals to grab the early 2-0 lead. Kelly Reese and Swan each found the back of the net.

Generi helped Navy get on the board with her first of the game with 22:41 left in the half to cut the deficit to one, 2-1.

The Cavaliers responded with back-to-back free position goals from Kelly Boyd and Kasey Behr to extend their lead to three, 4-1, with 19:29 remaining in the half.

Navy then came back with its own two-goal run, one from Jenna Collins and the other from senior Lindsay Rheiner (Ivyland, Pa.), to bring the game within one, 4-3.

Virginia then grabbed a commanding 10-4 lead after scoring six of the game's next seven goals in a span of 9:57. Seniors Liza Blue and Swan led the Cavaliers charge each scoring two goals a piece during the stretch.

Freshman Carly Comitino (Glen Head, N.Y.) tallied her lone goal of the game to cut the deficit to five, 10-5, to end the half.
