ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy moved up one spot to third place on the final day of the 2015 Patriot League Women's Golf Championship at the Naval Academy Golf Club on Sunday. Navy shot a 325 on Sunday to finish with a three-round total of 978 (323-330-325; +114).
Third-year head coach Nadia Ste-Marie was named the 2015 Patriot League Women's Golf Coach of the Year at the post-tournament banquet. The award was voted on by the league's head coaches.
"The team played hard this weekend and finishing in the top half of the league is good for us," said Ste-Marie. "The conditions were a little tougher today with it being a little chillier then yesterday and the pins were in some tougher locations. But we know this course well. We tried to use that to our advantage and we were able to move up into third."
Boston U. won the team title with a meet record score of 929 (307-305-317; +65) and Lehigh placed second with a 939 (319-311-309; +75). Navy was in third at 978 and edged out fourth place Richmond by four strokes (323-325-334=982; +118). Bucknell was fifth at 990 (331-326-333; +126) and Holy Cross was sixth at 1,152 (384-368-400; +288).
Boston U. earns the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Women's Golf Regional from May 7-9.
Boston U.'s Adela Cejnarova shot a meet record score of six-over par 222 (72-74-76) to win the tournament and she was named the league's Most Outstanding Player.
Cejnarova was followed by teammate Emily Tillo at 228 (77-74-77; +12) and Lehigh's Alyssa Schyed at 231 (77-76-78; +15). Lehigh's Nicole Feierberg was fourth at 234 (80-76-78; +18) and Boston U.'s Phyllis Tang was fifth at 235 (79-72-84; +19). Tang was also named the Most Outstanding Rookie.
All of the players in the top five received all-league first-team honors.
Navy freshman Christine Walker tied for 10th place with a three-round total of 243 (79-84-80; +27). Based on her 10th place finish, Walker was named to the All-Patriot League Second Team.
"Christine has had a great season and it's great to see her finish on a positive note," said Ste-Marie.
Walker was joined on the all-league second team by Lehigh's Kelly Moylan; Richmond's Elsa Diaz and Jessica Lydia; and Bucknell's Jennifer Lee and Emily Larson.
Navy freshmen Legare Augenstein and Jane Moon tied for 12th place with 54-hole scores of 246 (+30). Augenstein shot 81-85-80 and Moon went 80-85-81.
Freshman Kellyanne Hurst tied for 15th place with an overall score of 248 (85-79-84; +32).
All four of Navy's freshmen in its lineup placed in the top 15 in the 34-player field.
"It's a young team and we use four freshmen every tournament," said Ste-Marie. "With all the demands they have here at Navy, you can see that they have grown a lot this year. They played tough and I am confident when they come back next year they will be even stronger."
Junior Renata Bucher placed 19th at 251 (84-82-85; +35) and sophomore Katie Ryall was 26th at 259 (83-83-91; +43).
