BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- A balanced attack on both sides of the ball helped the Navy women's lacrosse team (11-3, 5-1 Patriot League) defeat Lehigh (7-7, 2-4 PL), 8-3, Wednesday night at Ulrich Sports Complex. With the win, Navy will compete for the Patriot League Tournament crown for the eighth-straight year.

"We needed a team effort tonight to overcome a tough Lehigh squad and it showed on both sides of the field," Navy head coach Cindy Timchal said. "Seeing the offensive production spread out amongst eight different players shows how well-rounded we can be when we have possession. This was good road win and we hope to carry this success in our final two home regular-season games before the league tournament."

Navy used a well-rounded offensive attack as eight different Mids tallied a goal. Freshman Jenna Collins (Clarksville, Md.) recorded a game-high three points on one goal and two assists. Senior Loren Generi (Bayport, N.Y.) tallied a goal, an assist, five draw controls, three ground balls and one caused turnover. Generi's lone goal gave her 199 for her career, tying Erin Rawlick for second all-time in program history.

On the defensive side of the ball, senior goalkeeper Annie Foky (Charlottesville, Va.) had her strongest game of the season, tallying a season-high nine saves. Seniors Casey Browne (Miller Place, N.Y.) and Sarah George (Lutherville, Md.) each had two caused turnovers.

"It was great to see Annie [Foky] play well in net," said Timchal. "She has been working real hard all season and she was a big factor for us in ending our losing skid. Lehigh tested her with six free-position opportunities and she responded with four key saves."

Navy showed its dominance on defense in the first half, causing four turnovers and allowing just five shots on net. Senior midfielder Casey Browne (Miller Place, N.Y.) led the Mids defense, tallying two caused turnovers. Foky recorded four saves on five chances to hold the Mountain Hawks to one goal.

The Mids grabbed an early 2-0 lead to begin the first half. Generi and Browne tallied back-to-back goals in a span of 33 seconds. Navy then extended its lead to five, 5-0, with three more goals with 3:03 left in the half. Junior Katie Gallagher (Bel Air, Md.), sophomore Morgan Young (Baltimore, Md.) and junior Codi Mullen (Wading River, N.Y.) each recorded a goal.

Lehigh cut the deficit to four, 5-1, to end the half. Senior Kendall Garden converted the Mountain Hawks lone free-position opportunity.

Down by four to start the second half, the Mountain Hawks tallied their second goal off their second consecutive free-position chance to trail by three, 5-2. Lehigh's Kendall Garden cashed in on the free-position with 19:14 left in the contest.

Navy's Collins twins Jenna and Julia scored back-to-back goals to extend the Mids' lead to five, 7-2, with 2:36 remaining in the game.

Lehigh's Allison LaBeau responded with her lone goal of the contest to cut the deficit to four, 7-3, with 1:16 left in the contest. Navy junior Kelsey O'Brien (Massapequa, N.Y.) capped of the game with her only goal to give the Mids the 8-3 victory.

The Mids won the possession battle, recording a 10-3 advantage in draw controls. Lehigh out shot Navy, 18-15 and tallying more ground balls, 17-12.

Navy will look to carry its success when it hosts Holy Cross on Saturday at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Opening draw is set for 3:30 p.m. and can be seen live for free on PatriotLeague.TV.
