BALTIMORE, Md. - The Navy women's tennis team (17-6, 3-0 PL) earned its ninth straight win by posting a 6-1 Patriot League victory at Loyola (7-6, 3-2 PL) on Thursday evening at the McClure Tennis Center. The Mids swept the doubles point and won five of the six singles matches.
"The ladies are to be commended on their play today," said head coach Keith Puryear. "It was a very tough day to play. The weather was cold and damp, but I thought we adjusted well. As we expect in every conference match, Loyola fought hard to the very last ball."
Navy swept the doubles point for the third time this season.
Senior team captain Noelle Kaufmann and freshman Kristine Rojo defeated Amanda Lanciano and Ania Krawiec at No. 1 doubles, 8-3. Sophomore Summer Ralston teamed with classmate Allie Pavlansky to defeat Megan Hahn and Olivia Ott at No. 2 doubles, 8-5. Junior Mikaela Carlson and sophomore Rozel Hernandez finished off Haleigh Morgus and Emily Hughes at No. 3 doubles, 8-7 (7-4).
Rojo picked up her second win of the day by defeating Lanciano at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-2.
Freshman Amanda Keller beat Hughes at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-3. Keller extends her school record win total to 27 singles victories.
Ralston earned her second win of the contest with a 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (8-6) win over Morgus at No. 4 singles and Carlson also picked up her second win with a 7-6 (8-6), 6-0 win over Krawiec at No. 6 singles.
Sophomore Audrey Channell defeated Julie Clark at No. 5 singles, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1.
Navy is now 6-0 all-time against Loyola.
Navy will next host Bucknell on Senior Day on Sunday at 12 noon at the USNA Tennis Courts next to Gate One at the Naval Academy.
