Final Team Standings

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. -- The Navy heavyweight rowing team wrapped up its third and final day of competition at the 2015 IRA National Championships on Sunday. The Mids saw three of their five entrees race in petite finals and two more in third finals on Mercer Lake's 2,000-meter course. As a result of all their outcomes in final action, Navy finished 11th overall nationally as a program in the Ten Eyck team standings.

"The varsity eight had a solid race to finish ninth today," said head coach Rob Friedrich. "Our goal was to finish top ten as a team and we came up a little short, finishing eleventh. Overall, our team fought hard over these three days and we are all very proud of their efforts this weekend and throughout the entire season."

The first varsity crew found itself in a tightly contested petite final that set the standings for seventh through 12th. The Mids were part of a three-team battle down Mercer Lake with the Bulldogs of Yale and the Terriers of Boston University. Yale pulled away slightly down the stretch and won the petite final with a time of 5:37.882. Boston held off Navy by 0.437 seconds with a 5:39.554 to 5:39.991 result. The Mids finished the year ranked ninth nationally.

Navy's second varsity eight boat completed its stay in West Windsor, N.J. with action in the third final on Sunday. In a six-boat field that finished within 8.707 seconds of each other, the Mids came in second place at 5:53.293, 2.194 seconds shy of Columbia's 5:51.099 first-place result. Navy beat George Washington to the finish line by 0.756 seconds. The Mids' second place finish in the third final translates to a 14th overall placement nationally.

The third varsity boat was the second Navy competitor in a petite final on Sunday. The Mids finished fifth in the race with a time of 5:55.439. The crew was less than three seconds out of third place as Cornell took third at 5:52.485 and Northeastern, fourth at 5:52.749. Nationally, Navy's third varsity boat will be ranked 11th.

The final eight-man boat to race in a petite final was the freshmen eight crew that participated in a three-boat competition. Navy came in runner-up to Dartmouth with a time of 6:07.829. The Big Green won the race and finished seventh nationally with a 6:06.275 result.

In varsity four action, the Mids raced in a tight contest that saw the Orange of Syracuse come out on top with a 6:35.312 time. Navy and Penn battled for the runner-up position throughout and finished separated by just 0.22 seconds. The Quakers came out atop the Mids with a time of 6:37.443 versus 6:37.663. The third final result ranks Navy 15th overall nationally.
