LORTON, Va. - The Navy men's golf team shot a 61-over par 913 (303-303-307) to place 15th out of 17 teams at the 54-hole Patriot Intercollegiate played at the Laurel Hill Golf Club on Sunday and Monday.

West Florida easily won the team title as the lone team to finish under par with a three-round mark of 847 (279-289-279, -5). Meanwhile, James Madison pushed up from sixth to second with an 860 (293-286-281), followed by Towson (283-290-289=862), Bethune Cookman (288-284-299=871) and the host George Mason Patriots (290-291-294=875) to round out the top five.

Towson junior Jimmy Grem played a spectacular tournament, taking medalist honors with his 9-under par 204 which featured a 64 (-7) in the second round.

Sophomore Thomas Fricke (Haymarket, Va.) paced the Mids with a 7-over par 220 (74-73-73) to tie for 22nd, while junior Devin Terry (La Crosse, Wis.) finished just outside of the top 50 with a 15-over par 228. Junior Connor Tallman (Lake Oswego, Ore.) was 64th with a 19-over par 232 (76-79-77), followed by rookie Paul Mauer (Eagleville, Pa.) in 74th with a 233 (79-73-81) and junior Ben Allen (San Marino, Calif.) in 97th with a 247 (83-83-81).

Sophomore Eric Terminello (White Plains, N.Y.) owned the Mids' second-lowest score with a 13-over par 226 (75-74-77), but played as an individual. As did freshmen Gregory Sibick (Williamsville, N.Y.) (79-74-79) and Griffin Peters (Fountain Hills, Ariz.) (83-78-71) who tied for 64th.

"I thought Thomas (Fricke) played a strong tournament for us and Eric Terminello was fairly consistent," said Navy head coach Pat Owen. "Once Griffin settled in and became more comfortable and familiar with the course, he really played well which was evident in his final round today (71, E)."

The Midshipmen return to the links this weekend when they play host to the annual Army-Navy Star Match. The two-day, 36-hole event will be scored as match play, or the more familiar Ryder Cup-style format, with four 4-ball matches played on Saturday and seven singles matches played on Sunday. The first team to reach six points will be declared the winner.
