Box Score Sept. 4, 2015

Box Score

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Oakland's Austin Ricci scored two goals, including the game-winner in overtime, as Oakland (2-1-0) defeated Navy (1-1-1), 3-2, at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility on Friday evening. Ricci's game-winner came 1:33 into the first overtime period.

Sophomore Daniel Zaremba scored his first career goal in the 21st minute to put Navy ahead, 1-0. Sophomore Thomas Moore sent a long pass from the defensive end that senior Thomas Shiiba controlled. Shiiba turned and passed ahead to Zaremba who got free on a breakaway and finished to the left side of the goal.

Oakland tied the game in the 36th minute after Navy couldn't clear away an opportunity and Alec Greene stepped up to fire a shot on goal that deflected off a Navy defender and into the net.

Ricci then scored his first goal in the 79th minute after being sent free on a pass from Raphael Reynolds to go up 2-1.

Navy was able to respond in the 87th minute when Moore sent a deep ball downfield to a streaking Derek Vogel. Vogel played the ball inside to sophomore Aubrey Jones who sent the ball to the left side of the goal and force overtime.

Ricci scored the game-winner just 93 seconds into the first overtime period to snap Navy's 13-game unbeaten streak (8-0-5). Navy's last loss was Sept. 27, 2014 at Boston University.

"It was a really undisciplined defensive performance by us tonight," said head coach Dave Brandt. "I think we are a good team offensively and two goals in a game like this should have been enough. If we are going to win any games this year we simply have to be better defensively."

Oakland registered three goals in the game on just 10 shots. Navy held a wide margin in shots (21-10) and corner kicks (8-1).

Oakland won the Horizon League last year and advanced to the NCAA Tournament Second Round in 2014.

This was the first meeting between the two schools.

Navy will next host Ohio State on Sunday at 4 PM. The Buckeyes (1-2-0) fell to No. 17 UMBC, 1-0, on Friday evening.
