Final Stats

ANNAPOLIS, Md. â€" The Navy men's tennis team dropped its second 4-3 decision of the young season Friday night when the Mids fell by that score to Georgetown Friday night at the Tose Family Tennis Center.

The teams split the first two doubles matches to be completed, but the Hoyas (1-3) earned the doubles point from the Mids (0-3) when Mike Chen and Jordan Portner recorded a 6-4 win over Krishna Jana (Jr., Seabrook, Texas) and Tucker Massie (So., Bloomfield, Mich.) at the No. 1 flight. Navy's win came at the No. 3 flight where Andrey Majkic (So., Jacksonville, Fla.) and Aries Wong (So., Bethesda, Md.) combined for a 6-3 victory over Yanniik Mahlangu and Jack Murphy.

"Andrey and Aries fought back from an early deficit to win their set with some very aggressive play," said Navy head coach Chris Garner. "Krishna and Tucker got out to a quick start in their match and looked to be in control of the set but Chen and Portner came up with some solid returns and big serves at the right time to clinch the set and the doubles point."

The Mids evened the score at 1-1 when Wong posted a 6-2, 6-0 win over Portner at No. 3 singles. Georgetown scored the ensuing two team points with wins at Nos. 6 and 4 singles, respectively. Navy's Austin Jones (Sr., Dallas, Texas) tallied a 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 victory over Peter Beatty to slice the margin down to 3-2, but a 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) win at No. 5 singles by Mac Rechan over Alex Gaines (Sr., Wilmington, N.C.) gave the Hoyas the match-clinching fourth team point.

The final match to be completed saw Jana record a 6-3, 7-6 (7-1) victory over Marco Lam at No. 2 singles.

"Very impressive wins from Jones, Jana and Wong in straight sets to get us our three points," said Garner. "Alex fought back from being down match points to force a tiebreaker in the second set, but Mac Rechan played a solid tiebreaker to clinch the set and the team match."

Navy will be back on the Tose Family Tennis Center courts Saturday for matches against Howard (9:30 a.m.) and Saint Joseph's (1:30 p.m.).
