CENTER VALLEY, Pa. â€" Navy freshman defender Diego Manrique was named the Patriot League Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for his play in Navy's league win and draw last week.

Manrique helped Navy go 1-0-1 against league foes last week. Navy played first-place American to a 0-0 double-overtime draw on Wednesday and then defeated Lafayette, 3-2, in overtime on Saturday.

Manrique played 110 minutes on the defensive backline in the shutout against American. He helped Navy post its fourth shutout of the season. It was also the first time that American had been shutout in 2016.

Manrique assisted on Ben Nicholas on his game-tying goal in a 3-2 win over Lafayette in the 74th minute on Saturday. Navy trailed 2-1 before Manrique set up Nicholas for a goal. Junior Daniel Zaremba then scored his second goal of the game in overtime to give Navy the victory. Zaremba was named to the Patriot League weekly honorable mention list for his performance.

Manrique ranks second on the team amongst field players with 1,586 minutes played. He has started all 17 games for Navy this season.

This is Manrique's second Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week award this season. He also earned the award on Sept. 6.

His three assists this season are tied with Zaremba for the team lead.

Navy (5-8-4, 1-5-2 PL) will close the 2016 season at Boston U. (7-6-2, 3-3-2 PL) on Friday at 7:00 PM.
