Mids & Falcons, Last Series
During the weekend of Feb. 28-March 1, Navy and Air Force met up for a three-game, two-day series at Grainger Stadium. The set began with a Saturday afternoon pitchers' duel between the Mids' Luke Gillingham and the Falcons' Griffin Jax. Both hurlers tossed eight-plus innings in their respective starts and combined for 22 strikeouts (12 for Gillingham) in no-decisions. In the final frame of play, the Falcons earned the walk-off win by stringing together a walk, single and fielder's choice to put runners on the corners. Eventually, a wild pitch allowed Air Force's Tyler Jones to cross home for the 2-1 victory.

On Sunday, the teams split a doubleheader as the Mids came from behind to secure a 5-3 win in the opener before seeing their service academy rivals pull away for a 6-2 victory in the series deciding third game. In the first contest, Navy trailed 3-0 after 4.5 innings before scoring five unanswered with two runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings. With the series tied at one game a piece, the Mids' defense let them down in game three with four errors resulting in three unearned runs, including two in the game-changing four-run fourth inning.

What to Watch For
On the strength of its first season- opening series sweep since 2010, Navy is on the hunt for its first 5-0 mark to start the season since 2010 and its first 6-0 start since 1981 when the program won its first eight games of the year ... The Mids bring back its top-three SPs, top-three RPs and eight of nine positional players from 2015 ... Luke Gillingham was named to the 2016 Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List

A Little Something Extra
In the team's season-opening series at North Carolina A&T, the Mids bashed the ball all over War Memorial Stadium to the tune of 19 extra-base hits (14 doubles, 1 triple and 4 home runs) ... During the 2015, the Mids only had three series with double-digit extra-base hits: at North Carolina A&T (10), vs. Lafayette (11, 4-game series) and at Lehigh (13, 4-game series) ... At Lehigh in April the team notched 13 total (9 doubles, 2 triples, 2 home runs)

Let's Play One???
The combination of Mother Nature causing havoc across the landscape of college baseball in early 2015 action and then Patriot League policy dictating doubleheaders, the Mids played at least one twinbill on all their 13 official competition weekends (pre-P.L. tournament bye weekend not withstanding) ... In a stroke of luck that the team couldn't find last season, Navy played all three opening series games at North Carolina A&T on the three regularly scheduled days.
