NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Navy squash season came to a close on Sunday with the Mids taking 14th at the College Squash Association Team Championship held at Yale University. The Mids finished the year with a 21-10 record, the 10th time the program has won 20 or matches and the eighth time under head coach Craig Dawson.

The Mids, who came into the tournament as the 14th seed, dropped a 6-3 decision in their opener against George Washington, who went on to place 11th in the tournament. Navy bounced back on Saturday with an impressive 9-0 sweep against Middlebury, who had beaten the Mids (5-4) a month ago in New Haven at Yale's tournament. The Mids were unable to sustain the momentum on Sunday, however, as Franklin & Marshall avenged a loss in its regular-season finale against Navy by scoring a 6-3 decision.

With the 9-0 sweep against Middlebury, every Navy player won at least one match at the team championship, while junior Randy Beck (Lafayette Hill, Pa.) and sophomore Sam McCartney (Chicago, Ill.) finished the weekend undefeated with 3-0 marks. Beck defeated George Washington's James Reiss, 3-1, beat Middlebury's Henry Pearson, 3-1, and posted a 3-1 victory against Kareem Nabil Abdel Mawla of Franklin & Marshall. Beck won his final four matches of the season and posted a 19-10 record.

McCartney closed out the year with a 12-0 record for the Mids that featured wins over GW's John Bassett, 3-1, Middlebury's Damuel Giddins, 3-0, and Ishan Advani, 3-1, of Franklin & Marshall at the team championship.

Freshmen Senen Ubina (Greenwich, Conn.) and Dylan Sweeney (New York, N.Y.) turned in 2-1 marks in their first appearance at the CSA Team Championship and both closed out the season with 21-8 records. They were among four Mids who won 20 matches over the course of the season. Joining Ubina and Sweeney on that list were sophomore Jack Herold (Chicago, Ill.) with a 20-10 record and freshman Jamie Kjorlien (Greenwich, Conn.), who led the team with a 22-8 mark.
