LONGWOOD, Fla. - With two players among the top 10, the Navy men's golf team opened its spring season on Monday at the Legacy Intercollegiate on a high note. The Midshipmen stand fourth among the field of 14 teams at the par-72 Legacy Club at Alaqua Lakes after putting together a 13-over par 589 in 36 holes of action.

All five of Navy's players completed the 36 holes of action with freshman Griffin Peters (Fountain Hills, Ariz.) shooting par (144) with back-to-back rounds of 72. Peters is in a three-way tie for sixth, six shots behind leader Jeremy Grab of Wofford. Just a stroke behind Peters is junior Connor Tallman (Lake Oswego, Ore.) who was 1-over in the opening round and followed up by shooting par in the afternoon. Tallman is in a four-way tie for ninth.

Meanwhile, sophomore Thomas Fricke (Haymarket, Va.) is just a stroke out of the top 10, sitting in 13th with a 2-over par 146. Fricke was 2-over in the first round, but came back to shoot par over the final 18 holes.

Senior team captain David Won (Bothell, Wash.) is tied for 43rd with a 10-over par 154 (75-79), while junior Devin Terry (La Crosse, Wis.) struggled in the second round to fall back to 67th with a 16-over par 161 (75-86). In the second round, Won had three birdies on his second nine, including one on the 18th hole. On that hole, he hit a wedge from 104 yards to two feet and converted for birdie in near darkness, which gave him an even par 36 for his back nine.

Among the opening-round highlights for the Mids were a 120-yard hole out for eagle by Connor on his 12th hole and an eagle three by Thomas on his par five 16th hole.

Wofford stands atop the leader board as the lone team in the field to shoot under par (571, -5). Eight players have yet to complete the second round which was halted due to darkness. Those players will complete the second round beginning at 7:30 am tomorrow, with the final round slated to begin at 8:00 am.
